Video shows New Year’s Eve fireworks sparking fires at Gloucester Park, East Perth
Revellers who rang in the New Year at Gloucester Park got a bigger show than they bargained for when a spectacular fireworks display set off several grass fires.
Shocked punters at the East Perth harness racing venue looked on as the rings of fire blazed inside the race track.
Footage recorded from inside the venue’s restaurant shows flames lighting up the night during the sparkling display as smoke from the fires mingled with smoke from the fireworks.
“Where’s a water cart when you need it?” one person could be heard saying.
Two staff members were seen at the edge of the biggest blaze, but did not appear to be making any attempt to put it out.
A yellow truck trundled towards the flames that were still licking the grass after the fireworks concluded.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services did not attend.
Gloucester Park was contacted for comment.
