Wembley crash: Man seriously injured in suspected hit-and-run on Herdsman Parade, near Dodd Street

Police are at the scene of a crash in Wembley where a man was seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run. Emergency services were first alerted to the crash on Herdsman Parade, near Dodd Street, in Wembley about 6.30pm on Thursday. St John WA said a man had been rushed to Royal Perth Hospital as a priority. His condition is unknown. David Hankin told The West Australian he saw the man lying on Herdsman Parade, metres from a pedestrian crossing, with “significant” injuries when he arrived home on Thursday. “A group of people were around him, so I just headed over and assisted traffic control until police and ambos arrived,” he said. “Fortunately, there was a few medics and doctors (passing by) to assist at the time. “It’s a road that we cross with three kids every year, every day, to go to the park and yeah, it hits home when you see it outside your front door.“ Mr Hankin said he arrived at the scene about “two minutes” after the incident happened. Items, believed to be clothing and first aid equipment, were still strewn across a median strip. A large section of the busy thoroughfare has been cordoned off by police. Major crash investigators are also at the scene. Police were still searching for a car linked to the incident on Thursday night. Mr Hankin said the corner near where the man was hit is “not as safe as it could be”. “When you’re crossing from the park-side over to this side, it’s a blind corner, which isn’t ideal and need to be addressed.”
