Saints in the box seat for more success as KBBA resumption looms
Saints will tackle the second half of the men’s division one campaign already in the box seat for the minor premiership when fixtures resume later this month.
In pursuit of back-to-back flags, Saints return from the Christmas break with a competition-best nine wins, against just one defeat.
The side’s lone hiccup was a round-eight loss against CBC, 100-85, but they hit back strongly to win their next two in a row.
CBC, whose past two games have produced a win and a loss, hold down second place with a 7-3 win-loss record.
Much of the CBC’s early success can be attributed to the dynamic shooting of Sam Morrow, whose nine games has produced a competition-best 254 points.
It includes a season-high 55 points against Saints in a losing effort in round five and he is coming off a brilliant 2024 campaign for the Goldfields Giants’ second team in the WABL that earned him team MVP honours.
Saints’ Jordan Clements has scored 241 points while Franchise’s opening 10 games have brought just three wins, but they occupy third place by two games against Olympians.
Olympians have lost eight consecutive games, but they were impressive in a two-point defeat in round 10 against CBC.
The women’s first division has so far proved to be a one-horse race with Olympians out in front with six wins.
Saints beat them convincingly in the final round before the break, but the red-and-whites’ lead in the standings is two games.
Saints’ Chloe Zorzi resumes with a competition-best 157 points, underpinned by two hauls of 26 points.
The resumption will be highlighted by the first official fixtures in the association’s redeveloped multimillion-dollar stadium.
Goldfields Giants squad members launched practice at the new venue this week as club officials work on an official proposal to draw regular NBL games, featuring the Perth Wildcats, to Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
