Albany Speedway Club will start a bumper new season on Saturday night, headlined by round two of the Wingless Sprints WA Championship.

A strong field of cars will contest the event at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway, including former residents Kurt McKain and Brandon Sharpe.

State champion Blake Iwanow, who claimed round one at the Perth Motorplex, heads the list of 22 nominations.

Travis Armstrong and Matt Iwanow were on the podium in the opening round and will be among the fancies to claim feature race glory in Albany.

McKain returns to familiar territory full of confidence, having won last weekend’s FAST Racing Series event at the Motorplex — his maiden feature race victory in the division.

The wingless sprints will be part of a strong program on opening night, with the visiting legend cars also making an appearance.

It will be the first time legend cars have come to Albany in more than 600 days, and they will compete in round four of the WA Championship, in which Brendan Radford holds a slim 10-point lead over Ken Melvin.

Junior sedans, street stocks and production sedans will be the support divisions for the meeting.

Gates open at 3pm, and racing starts at 5.30pm.
