McQualter sums himself up

“I’m just a simple country boy who works hard.”

A line on Schofield

Don Pyke says Jarrad Schofield is “understandebly upset,” over not getting the role.

It remains to be seen if he remains at West Coast

On expectations

“From day one we need to improve, there’s no doubt about that,” he says.

“I don’t live in the realm of expectations we just need to be getting better everyday.”

McQualter praises Hardwick for his development

“Matt’s a great freind of mind, and a great person to understand the list,” he said.

“Dimma’s been enormous in my journey, I’ve learned a lot from him, the biggest one being it’s probably ok to say ‘I don’t have all the answers.

“It’s ok to be vunerable.”

Pyke says plenty more work to do

“That works starts now with Andrew and Gavin (Bell),”

“We’ll get to work pretty quickly,” he said.

“This process allowed us to sit back and look at what we want in a seior coach and the chance to get a fresh start.”

“Like with the AFLW program the opportunity to bring fresh eyes and fresh ideas can work wonders.”

On Graham and Baker

“It’s been a big 24 hours, I’m sure the guys have done a power of work on those guys,” he says.

“I’ll meet with those guys in the coming days and we’ll go from there.”

McQualter cracks a joke

He’s asked when he first thought about being a senior coach.

“Probably the three times I got delisted before 25,” he jokes.

“I’ve had a lot of leadership roles in my footy and it’s something that’s probably been in the back of mind.”

Pyke says McQualter ticked more boxes

“Andrew ticked more boxes thatn the other candidates and also his experience as an interim to sit in the chair is an added bonus.”
