In-form Min Woo Lee has heavyweight support in his bid to win at Augusta

Whether it’s pop music icon Justin Bieber, NBA great Steph Curry or “big brother” Jason Day, Min Woo Lee is feeling the “love” and soaking up the adulation ahead of his Masters tilt at Augusta next week.
Lee, who described himself as just “a boy from Perth”, is the toast of world golf after his breakthrough PGA Tour win at the Houston Open on Monday (AEDT).
He’s now the highest-ranked Australian male golfer in the world at No.22 and is full of confidence heading to Augusta National, his “favourite course”.
“I love playing there, I love being back there,” Lee said.
“I really enjoy going back there and playing some good golf.
“Augusta is a course where random stuff can happen and big scores can happen as well, but when you know you feel good, you can also score well too, so hopefully putting four rounds together and learning from last week helps.”
Lee didn’t “feel good” at Augusta last year, with a cold and a broken finger having compromised his preparations.

“To finish (tied for 22nd) … was pretty good, especially the way I started,” said Lee, who promised to be a “bit safer” this year and not drop a dumbbell on his finger.
“I’ll just relax and enjoy my time doing nothing really … and get ready for the big dance.”
Lee will have plenty of support in his corner, including Bieber, who was quick to call the Australian golfer after his one-shot win over world No.1 Scheffler in Houston.
“It’s a weird one … he fanboys over me, but obviously I’m fanboying over him,” Lee said of his friendship with Bieber.
“I got his contact at a little, private kind of tournament. He was part of the club that we did it at. He didn’t play or anything, but he was there.
“I’d seen him play golf like on social media, so I just said ‘let’s play golf’. We haven’t played yet, but I got his phone number, and we’ve texted quite often. He’ll send me videos of his swing and I’ll critique it.
“The girls that I know in my life are very crazy about it, and I am as well, listening to his music over the last 10 years and obviously with his fame from such a young age.
“It’s very cool to have him as a friend, and I get to talk to him, so it’s crazy. I’m fanboying. I’m a boy from Perth, and I get to talk to one of the biggest artists in the world.
“He actually looks pretty good (at golf), so I can say I’m his coach.”
Lee has been grateful for the messages of support and congratulations he has received since winning in Houston.
“I’ve got a lot of love over the past couple days, gaining (plenty) of followers (on social media), which is crazy,” he said.

“There’s a lot of people that congratulated me, and I’m very thankful. A lot of famous people … (NBA great) Steph Curry posted. It’s really cool.”
Lee was also thankful for the ongoing support of fellow Australian golfer Day, the former world No.1 who will also be in the Masters field next week.
“Jason has been an amazing help to me. He’s helped me the most out of any tour player, any player, just his advice, just in general,” said Lee, who received good advice from Day after failing to take advantage of being tied for first after two rounds at last month’s Players Championship.
“I told him how I felt during the players. I wasn’t myself, and I didn’t know I was trying to be someone else.
“He just said to trust the process and keep hitting good shots … and funny, I did that and I won.
“He’s a great guy but also a great golfer. It’s only love between us, and it’s very cool to have a big brother out on tour.”
