Fremantle Training Notes: Young guns hit the track as Wildcats legend Damian Martin makes Dockers debut

It was young talent time at Cockburn on Thursday morning as Fremantle’s first-to-fourth year players returned for their first day of pre-season. Here’s what we saw... No Senior Stars The only sighting of any senior players was a brief appearance of vice-captain Caleb Serong as it was only the young men who hit the track. There was a good reason for this though with the senior players on another program which they completed on Wednesday, which meant they were not required on Thursday. This left a total of 16 youngsters to be put their paces under the watchful eye of the coaching staff in a routine session where skills was a heavy focus. Under the warm spring sun, the young guys were vocal and full of enthusiasm as they look to put the pressure on their senior teammates for spots in the best 22 in 2025. Marto The Main Man There was no shortage of coaches and officials on the ground with nearly a dozen helping out. And there was some new faces including Wildcats legend Damian Martin who has joined the club where he will oversee their leadership program. Sporting a black Dockers cap, Martin looked right at home in a different code as he watched the players put through their paces. New backline coach Jade Rawlings was also on hand after relocating from South Australia recently, with Fremantle to head to Karratha next week for a community camp. Senior coach Justin Longmuir cut a contemplative figure as he watched over training, often contributing with advice and encouragement to his young chargers. Hair-raising Looks While the faces were familiar there were several new looks for Fremantle players to start pre-season. Defender Brandon Walker was sporting a big afro that was standing out amongst his teammates. Meanwhile, forward Josh Treacy has gone the other way with a buzzcut which gave him a more menacing look. Youngster Jack Delean stood out with his flowing blonde locks, while rucks Max Knobel and Liam Reidy were the big guys on track who burst through traffic in the contest drills.
