Giddey prominent as Bulls storm past Trail Blazers

Josh Giddey has notched his sixth triple-double of the season, lifting Chicago to a 118-113 win over the visiting Portland Trail Blazers.

Giddey racked up 15 points, a career-best 19 rebounds and 12 assists as the Bulls (35-42) moved up to ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Coby White and Nikola Vucevic each scored 31 points for the hosts, while Deni Avdija posted 37 points and 11 rebounds for the Blazers (34-44).

Portland managed to slice a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit to two points, before the Bulls recovered as White iced the victory from the free-throw line.

The Bulls fed Vucevic in the paint to open a 26-20 lead, before Portland fought back to hold sway 33-30 at the end of the first break.

The lead changed hands 11 times in the third frame before the Bulls pulled away thanks to Giddey.

The Australian had 10 points, eight boards and four assists for the period, which Chicago dominated 40-29 to lead 92-83 entering the fourth quarter.

Fellow Boomer Matisse Thybulle had seven points, four rebounds and two assists for the Trail Blazers.

In San Francisco, Stephen Curry scored 36 points as Golden State beat Denver 118-104 for their fifth straight win.

Brandin Podziemski added 26 and Jimmy Butler III had 19 for the Warriors. They pulled within a half-game of the Nuggets, who began play third in the Western Conference.

The Warriors built a double-digit lead in the third quarter and maintained it the rest of the way. A 3-pointer by Curry midway through the quarter gave Golden State a 15-point lead, and he also completed a three-point play with under three minutes to play to keep the lead at 15.

Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with 33 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, after finishing with 61 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the last game he played.

The Los Angeles Lakers helped their prospects for a top-four finish in the Western Conference with a 124-108 victory over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans

Luka Doncic scored 35 points and Austin Reaves added 30, while LeBron James produced 27 points and eight assists.

The Lakers won in advance of a back-to-back road set against the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday and Tuesday.

The Lakers (47-30) pulled a half-game ahead of the fourth-place Nuggets as Reaves went 6 of 9 from 3-point range and set a franchise record with 15 made 3-pointers in consecutive games.

In other matches, Kawhi Leonard had 20 points and sparked a key early run as the Los Angeles Clippers sailed past the Dallas Mavericks 114-91 for their third-stright win.

Houston beat Oklahoma 125-111, San Antonio lost 114-113 at home to Cleveland, Detroit defeated Toronto away 117-105, Boston scored a 123-103 win over Phoenix, Indiana thrashed Utah 140-112 and Charlotte were soundly beaten 125-102 at home by Sacramento.
