Dockers fan Joan Whiteland says she nearly fainted when told she had won the $10,000 earlybird prize with The Game footy tipping, thanks to Thirsty Camel - even questioning if it was a scam.

The Orelia resident has been a regular tipper with WA’s premier tipping competition for the last couple of years and signed up as usual ahead of the 2023 season - with $50,000 up for grabs for the season’s top tipper, courtesy of TABtouch.

But little did the “born and bred” Fremantle product know she would soon get a call that she was $10,000 richer.

“I nearly fainted,” Whiteland said. “And I was also thinking, is this a scam?”

“Even when I told my partner, he said, “are you sure it’s not a scam?”

Joan and her husband Michael will use the $10,000 prize to finally get around to painting their roof - but it won’t be a shade of purple.

“We’ve been trying to have that done for a couple of years now but just never had the money to do it.

“So that was the first thing that came to mind.”

Whiteland will try her luck again for the $50,000 grand prize but says her commitment to backing the Dockers most weeks could prevent her from taking it out.

“That’s always the aim but because I tip with my heart that would very rarely happen,” she said.

In fact, she’s already put in her tips for round one - backing Fremantle to beat St Kilda at Optus Stadium.

Less optimistic about her beloved Dockers going all the way, Whiteland says a flag would be an added bonus - just like her $10,000.

“It would be like winning the early bird prize again,” she said.

Also up for grabs is a a brand new Mazda BT-50, valued at over $73,000, while there’s a cool $1000 on offer every round for the week’s top tipper.
