Former Fremantle Docker turned Kentucky punter Max Duffy sells dummy and sends US fans into frenzy

VideoFormer Fremantle Docker Max Duffy, now a college punter with Kentucky, has sent US sports fans into overdrive saving his side from disaster against NC State.

Max Duffy managed few highlights in his time at Fremantle but the now punting sensation is finishing his college career with a bang, sending US sport fans into a frenzy overnight after selling a perfect ‘dummy’ in an upset win over NC State.

Duffy claimed the ‘Ray Guy’ Award last year as the NCAA’s best player in the special teams position, his kick creativity, trick plays and occasional touchdown-saving tackle wowing Americans, but today’s effort in the Wildcats’ Gator Bowl surely helps the 27-year-old’s draft potential.

The moment has been viewed more than a million times since Duffy shook his Wolfpack opponent, helping his side come away with an upset win over the #23 ranked side in the country.

The commentator covering the match-up praised Duffy’s effort saying, “that went from disaster, to now less of a disaster, to a heck of a play,” and the response on social media echoed that sentiment with a chorus of excitement from all fans of the game, punter to pundit.

This isn’t the first time the ProKick product has impressed college football fans, with multiple efforts over his three-years of eligibility that are unique for the position.

Duffy was drafted out of East Fremantle to the Dockers, but a string of shoulder and hamstring injuries limited him to just three games under Ross Lyon between 2014 and 2015.

After a successful transition to gridiron the WA product could soon see a massive pay day, if he finds his way onto an NFL roster Duffy could follow the string of Aussie punters producing in the pros like NFL champion Mitch Wishnowsky.

Punters generally don’t go in the top few rounds in the NFL draft, but the 27-year-old’s sustained efforts at the collegiate level could see him in the handful of players in the position picked up in the draft later this year or through a club’s training camp.
