Police charge Alameddine after month-long manhunt

Alan "Ahmad" Alameddine has been arrested at a Sydney unit after allegedly evading police for more than a month.

The 33-year-old allegedly fled from officers as they conducted a Firearm Prohibition Order compliance check at his address in Greenacre on August 3.

Despite the efforts of organised crime detectives, riot police, the Dog Squad and PolAir, Alameddine managed to evade capture, with police appealing to the public for help locating him.

Police allege when they arrived to conduct a search of another property in South Coogee on Tuesday, they witnessed Alameddine jump out of a window and disappear over a fence.

Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit followed by broader search efforts but were unsuccessful in tracking him down.

Soon after, Alameddine allegedly returned to the unit but took off again when he saw police.

Following another foot pursuit, officers were able to take him into custody.

It was established that Alameddine was wanted on four outstanding arrest warrants for serious firearm-related offences and a drug-related offence.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station, and then to hospital under police guard for treatment of a foot injury.

As well as being charged over the outstanding warrants, Alameddine was charged with additional weapons offences, hinder/resist police officer in the execution of duty, and enter including land not prescribed without lawful excuse.

He is due to appear at Waverley local court on Wednesday.
