Letter to the Editor: Transhipping “will never replace” benefits of Albany’s whaling identity
I refer to your last Thursday’s front page story on the proposed transhipping project’s negative impact on whales in King George Sound (Whale Guide Sounds Alarm, July 11, 2024).
Your editorial on this matter (Whales are part of our identity) was spot on.
Whilst transhipping might bring some economic benefits to Albany (but mainly to the companies concerned), these benefits to Albany will only displace and will never replace the current economic and social benefits of Albany’s whaling identity and tourism drawcard.
