Basil Zempilas: The Liberal class of 2025 will ensure the future of Western Australia is not compromised

1. I am honoured and humbled to have been chosen to lead the Liberal Party. It is both an enormous opportunity and an enormous responsibility. Together with the hugely talented and dynamic Liberal parliamentary team — the class of 2025 — our commitment is to hold the Cook Labor Government to account on behalf of the people of Western Australia every day. It is a commitment we accept with great pride and a sense of obligation. 2. Everything we do will be about ensuring the future of this State is not compromised. Not compromised by another four years of failing to ensure West Aussies have access to quality health services, accessible housing, reliable, affordable energy, and not compromised by reckless government spending. Half a billion dollars on a race track and a rugby team is a compromise we will not accept. 3. We will champion and be known for fairness, hard work and excellence. We will operate with integrity and demand it from the Government. We will work as a team and be disciplined, we will be rigorous and constructive — and we will always prioritise common sense. 4. This is not a refresh or rebuild for the Liberal Party, it is a reset. That job starts with listening. We will be listening in the community, in our electorates and around the State. We will be listening in the regions where people have been ignored by Labor over the past eight years. And we will be listening to young people, older West Australians, families and people in small business. 5. We will take our lead on character and class from Libby Mettam. Libby is an inspiration. I want to thank her for her tireless work as leader and express my gratitude that she has chosen to stay in the leadership team. Her support will be invaluable. She has set the standard for hard work and dedication. 6. Settling on the best partnership model with the Nationals is a top priority. Whatever form it takes, I can guarantee we will work co-operatively and constructively. Together we will prove we are not only a credible alternative government, but that it is only a Liberal-led government that can drive this State forward, as previous Liberal-National governments have done. 7. In time, we will outline our vision for the State. We will be bold but not reckless. It will be a vision which guarantees the future prosperity of WA. Everyone deserves the opportunity to succeed — and those who are most vulnerable deserve support when they need it. 8. The WA I know is a State for doers and dreamers, of innovators and entrepreneurs. Those great West Australian qualities must always be encouraged and allowed to thrive. They are the qualities which set us apart. 9. Our team will examine, probe and scrutinise — and demand transparency and accountability. We will be proactive and positive. 10.
