A severe weather warning has been issued to residents in parts of WA’s South West and Perth as wild storms approach the area.

The thunderstorm is approaching south of Fremantle and Emergency WA has told people to take action now.

Locations that may be affected include Mandurah, Henderson, Rockingham, Secret Harbour, Anketell, Pinjarra, Dwellingup, Jarrahdale, North Dandalup and Serpentine.

Residents in parts of Lower West, South West and Great Southern districts are also being told to expect intense rainfall that may lead to life-threatening flash flooding and damaging winds in the next several hours.

“A cold front moving onshore in south west WA is producing strong convection and thunderstorms training over similar areas,” the Bureau of Meteorology reported.

“Intense rainfall developing near the Busselton coast.”

Meteorologist Helen Reid said the weather hopefully would not be as wild as last weekend.

“During the course of the afternoon we are expecting a bit of rain and by the time it’s dark this evening it will be quite wet with about 20-30mm to come through,” she said.

And the showers are forecast to continue tomorrow.

Ms Reid said residents on the coast were most susceptible to the severe conditions.

“Those on the coastline will feel the full effect of the cold front,” she said.

“Mandurah around to Albany may see a warning for heavy rainfall and possibly some damaging winds.

“Residents are encouraged to be mindful and take care when travelling and keep an eye out for emergency services.”

The widespread rainfall will also hit the Wheatbelt with about 10mm.

If you’re heading out this weekend don’t forget your raincoat and umbrella as there will be a few more showers with about 5-10mm of rainfall on Saturday and 10-15mm on Sunday.
