Student skills on display

The first day of spring provided perfect weather for the 2011 Narrogin Agricultural College Open Day.

The annual showcase of course work and student achievement included an impressive range of displays, including work samples and active events.

A significant feature was the trade displays of student metals and woodwork projects in the skills display area.

The shearing demonstrations highlighted the skills of college training officer and international shearing champion John Dalla, while farm tours, building construction demonstrations and livestock presentations were all popular with the visiting public.

The grand parade saw students leading steers that will be taken to the Perth Royal Show and yearlings that are being prepared for the Northam Show.

Guests enjoyed a free barbecue lunch as they watched the farm skills teams compete in a fencing competition under the adjudication of Paul Jones, of One Steel Waratah.

Guided tours of the new dormitories were very popular with parents and prospective students.
