Rottnest Island seaplane crash: Danish tourist Hanna Duer discharged from hospital as investigation continues

A Danish tourist seriously injured in a seaplane crash off Rottnest Island that killed three others has been discharged from hospital to grieve the tragic loss of her partner. Hanna Duer, 58, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital on Tuesday after the Swan River Seaplanes Cessna crashed after struggling to take off from pristine waters in Thomson Bay. Ms Duer, who was understood to have suffered serious hand injuries, was the last of the four survivors to be released from hospital when she was discharged on Saturday, four days after the tragedy. Her 60-year-old partner, Torben Poulsen, sadly lost his life in the crash. Swiss woman Danielle Grundbacher-Mosching, 65, was also killed, along with 34-year-old Perth-based pilot James Wong. Ms Grundbacher-Mosching’s partner, Andreas Mosching, 63, survived, along with a couple from WA, a 63-year-old man and 65-year-old woman. The WA woman was cleared to leave Fiona Stanley Hospital on Friday, with her husband avoiding serious injury. On Saturday, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau said it would not be providing further updates on the progress of the investigation into what caused the crash. A preliminary report is due to be delivered in about eight weeks. Premier Roger Cook said police were also still undertaking their investigation on behalf of the WA Coroner. After being lifted from the seabed on Thursday, the wreckage was taken via barge to the mainland, where it was expected to be inspected by air crash investigators for crucial clues. “That will be a crucial next step for the ATSB to undertake their investigation,” Mr Cook told reporters in Margaret River. While the main sections of the plane will remain in Perth, some parts were taken to the ATSB’s laboratory in Canberra. An online fundraiser set-up by Mr Wong’s partner, Angela Cloeraine, who is also a seaplane pilot, has now raised more than $40,000 for his grieving family. Ms Cloeraine has posted a heartbreaking video of the couple’s adventures on social media, paying tribute to Mr Wong. “I Will always love you,” she wrote.
