A father has suffered serious injuries when he was struck to the head with a hammer while investigating a disturbance at a unit complex in Perth’s northeast.

The alleged attack, on a shared driveway on Arbon Way in Lockridge about 2am on Thursday, left a 41-year-old man in Royal Perth Hospital with a fractured skull and jaw.

“There was a scream, a lady’s voice crying, there were kids screaming, terrified to the max,” one neighbour said.

Power was cut to the complex when several power boxes and other property were damaged during the alleged rampage.

The victim had been drawn outside by the noise, police said.

Residents called triple-0 while a nurse provided first aid to the injured father of two.

“(I spoke) to the victim’s wife shortly after he was taken away via ambulance,” one witness said.

“The grip she had on my arm, I will never forget.”

The accused, a 43-year-old man from Lockridge, also smashed his way through a different neighbour’s window and had a physical altercation with a male occupant, police allege.

The accused has been charged with 14 offences — grievous bodily harm, aggravated home burglary, common assault, breach of protective bail and 10 counts of criminal damage and destruction of property.

He was due to appear in Midland Magistrates Court on Thursday.
