Ak Mohammad Hanif Bin Pg Abd Wahab faces court accused of home invasion ‘dressed as a ninja, carrying weapons’

A burglar accused of being armed and “dressed as a ninja” when he allegedly chased a grandmother before breaking into her home has been revealed as the elderly homeowner’s neighbour. Ak Mohammad Hanif Bin Pg Abd Wahab appeared briefly in Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday on a string of charges in relation to a New Year’s Eve home invasion in Yangebup. The 35-year-old had bruises below both of his eyes and sported long black hair as he appeared in court via video link from Hakea Prison. He spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charges. The nine charges allege that he committed aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm, aggravated home burglary, three counts of carrying a controlled weapon, and assaulted a police officer. It is alleged Mr Pg Abd Wahab approached Teresa Urbaniak while wearing all black at Perena Rocchi Reserve on Sandpiper Loop, in Yangebup, about 10.40pm on New Year’s Eve Police said she was allegedly punched and scratched before she was chased back to her nearby home, before the attacker forced his way inside. Her husband — 62-year-old Piotr Urbaniak — tackled the man to the floor before police arrived. He was left bloodied and injured after he was allegedly attacked during the citizen’s arrest. Police arrived shortly after before the accused attacker was arrested. Officers who made the arrest, who were captured on CCTV, said the man had tried to grab one of their tasers. He has been accused of obstructing and assaulting a police officer during his arrest. The Yangebup man was allegedly found with multiple ninja-style weapons. Police have seized two sai, a set of knuckle dusters and a throwing star. Mr Pg Abd Wahad was listed for a bail application during Friday’s court appearance but his duty lawyer instead called for an adjournment after it was revealed he lives just 100m away from the victims’ home. The adjournment was granted, with the magistrate saying “these are very serious allegations” and telling Mr Pg Abd Wahad he should not think the adjournment indicates he will be granted bail during his next appearance. Ms Urbaniak said she feared for her life during the alleged attack. “He was in (an) all-black costume (and he) looked like a ninja,” she told 9NEWS. “I was really scared that he was going to kill me.” Mr Pg Abd Wahad will remain in Hakea Prison until his next court appearance via video link on Monday.
