A crash involving a bus has created havoc on Kwinana Freeway, with traffic banked up for several kilometres.

The crash involving a Transperth bus and two other vehicles, one understood to be a truck, has reduced traffic to a single lane southbound near Canning Highway in Como.

It is understood the incident happened when a vehicle hit the rear of another vehicle about 9.30am.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services and ambulance crews are onsite.

Paramedics have reportedly assessed a number of people but no one has needed medical treatment.

Main Roads has warned that traffic is heavy on approach, with tow trucks having removed the cars involved in the accident.

“At about 9.30am this morning, a Transperth bus travelling on the Kwinana Freeway was rear-ended by a truck,” a Public Transport Authority spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.

“There were no passengers onboard.

“The bus sustained damage to the rear and is in the process of being towed from the accident site.”

It comes on the back of two earlier crashes on Perth’s roads on Monday morning.

A crash on Tonkin Highway southbound at Reid Highway in Beechboro blocked the left lane, while an accident on the same highway northbound at Roe Highway led to the closure of the left lane.

The incidents caused a backlog of peak-hour traffic, which has slowly been clearing.
