Kimberley Green Constructions wins WA Contractor of the Year at 2024 Supplier Performance Awards

An East Kimberley building contractor company has been honoured with the top gong at the Department of Finance Supplier Performance Awards for their outstanding performance on upgrades to Kimberley building sites. Kununurra-based company Kimberley Green Constructions was awarded the Best Contractor at a ceremony in Perth at His Majesty’s Theatre. The awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate construction contractors working on non-residential government projects that deliver exceptional value to the community. KGC director Noelene Green said the recognition came as a surprise but was very proud of the team effort, accepting the award with her eldest son and project manager, Matt Green. “It was really an honour to be nominated and to be selected, because we had absolutely no idea that they had selected us,” Ms Green said. “It’s awesome for the team, they feel really proud that we’re in the Kimberley and we can win these things from the State.” The company’s projects at the Looma and Dampier Peninsula Multi-Functional Police Facilities and the North Regional TAFE in Kununurra were highlighted, with work carried out during the wet season under challenging conditions. “You can imagine the logistics and the heat, so I think that they were really thankful that the projects got done in those harsh conditions,” Ms Green said. “(The work) came from all of our team, from contractors to labourers to mechanics - anyone who worked on those sites.” The award criteria included cost and time management, quality, communication, and alignment with government policies, with KGC achieving a performance score above 90 per cent, the highest among all nominees. Presenting the awards, Finance Minister Sue Ellery congratulated the winners for their “outstanding” outcomes and commitment to industry leading standards and innovation on delivering government projects. “I congratulate them all for their exemplary work over the past two years on projects that provide the Western Australian community with new health, police, fire and emergency services and cultural facilities,” she said. “This Government recognises the important role the building and construction industry plays in delivering outcomes to the community and maintaining Western Australia’s strong economy. “A strong pipeline of future work in excess of $42.4 billion has been committed ensuring plenty more work will be available to local and Aboriginal businesses across the State.”
