Wandillup Bushfire Brigade receives state-of-the-art $380,000 tanker in time for 2025 bushfire season

A bushfire brigade based west of Bridgetown is the new home for a state-of-the-art water tanker, designed to help the unit fight fires using advanced technology. The State Government provided the Wandillup Bushfire Brigade with the $380,000 tanker in December last year, bolstering its firefighting capacity and bushfire resilience in time for the 2025 bushfire season. The new tanker not only has the capability to pump a lot of water quickly, it also features several crew protection measures to ensure optimal safety for volunteers during fire emergencies. These measures include an Automatic Vehicle Location, a deluge system, radiant heat shields, lagging, burn-over blankets, and in-cab air units. Member for Warren-Blackwood Jane Kelsbie praised the dedication of local volunteers. “Volunteer firefighters like those in the Wandillup Brigade are on the frontline, protecting our community and our environment,” she said. “I’m proud to deliver this tanker, which will enhance their safety and boost their effectiveness in responding to emergencies.” This investment is part of the State Government’s continued focus on bolstering firefighting capacity and bushfire resilience across Western Australia. Key initiatives include $10.1 million investment to expand the State Aerial Firefighting Fleet and $140m in additional funding to equip first responders with modern tools to fight fires more effectively. “These programs are about giving our first responders the tools and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively, while also working to make their jobs easier through proactive bushfire mitigation efforts,” Ms Kelsbie said.
