A new era is about to begin for the longest running award of its kind in WA.

The AJ (Tood) Buswell South Western Times Sports Star of the Year for 2022 will be crowned on Friday night at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, as part of the Bunbury-Geographe Sports Awards.

The ceremony, co-ordinated by the City of Bunbury in collaboration with neighbouring councils, will recognise a series of athletes and coaches across a multitude of categories.

Winners of the South Western Times’ gong and Myles Junior Sport Star of the Year will also be crowned, much to the delight of the South West sporting community.

Once again, a diverse range of athletes dominate the AJ (Tood) Buswell South Western Times Sports Star of the Year field.

International surfing star Jack Robinson has had a brilliant year, but so to has speedway champion Kye Blight, emerging Leschenault boxer Lekeisha Pergoliti and Busselton women’s football coach Rennie Meadmore.

The top three finalists and eventual winner were voted on a 3-2-1 basis by two appointed judges from the South Western Times.

The ceremony begins from 6.30pm on Friday.
