Busselton man to face Bunbury Magistrates Court next month over alleged stealing and evasion incident

A Busselton man has been charged with evading police officers last week in an allegedly stolen car. Police say the 23-year-old man from Yalyalup, near Busselton, stole a red Hyundai i30 from a Broadwater holiday park on January 14 at 8.55pm. They say the vehicle was spotted driving on Stirling Road in Capel at 10am Wednesday and the driver failed to stop upon the activation of police lights and sirens. Police claim the continued to drive in a reckless manner on Roberts Road until the vehicle stopped in sand dunes. They say the driver then fled on foot before being stopped by police. The accused has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with direction to stop, and one count each of stealing a motor vehicle, recklessly driving to escape police, having no authority to drive, and a bail breach offence. He appeared in the Bunbury Magistrates Court on January 16 and was remanded in custody. The accused is next due to appear in court on February 13. Police said it would be further alleged the man was charged with aggravated armed robbery’, burglary and stealing following an unrelated matter. Inquiries continue. with detectives seeking any information from the public in relation to the red Hyundai i30 hatchback travelling in areas surrounding Broadwater and Capel between 8.55pm on January 14 and 10am the following day.
