Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie pledges funds to boost major sporting event and community initiatives

Upgrades and sponsorships are on the table, with major funding boosts promised by WA Labor for community initiatives and events in the Warren Blackwood region. Warren-Blackwood MLA Jane Kelsbie announced the re-election commitments to the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships, Greenbushes Discovery Centre, a playground in Highlands, and the historic Nannup Town Hall on February 5. Ms Kelsbie said an increase in sponsorship support from $450,000 to $2.45 million for the Gravel World cycling event would be a “huge win” for the region. “I’m incredibly proud to have strongly advocated for this funding,” she said. “Securing this world-class event in Nannup will not only attract elite cyclists from around the globe but also bring thousands of visitors, delivering a major economic boost to local businesses and showcasing our stunning South West region. “This funding ensures that both locals and visitors will enjoy a fantastic event, as well as cementing Nannup’s reputation as a premier cycling destination.” Ms Kelsbie said a re-elected Labor government would also deliver $14,000 for a mural at the Greenbushes Discovery Centre to celebrate the area’s rich history. A new nature playground in the Bridgetown Highlands housing development also secured funds with a re-election commitment of $100,000. The funding would complement a $40,000 commitment by the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes. Nannup Town Hall would receive $60,000 from Labor to upgrade its heating and cooling systems. The funding would replace outdated gas heaters with modern energy-efficient systems that align with the shire’s recent solar panel installation. “Nannup Town Hall is such a special part of the community. It’s where people come together to celebrate, connect, and make memories,” Ms Kelsbie said.
