A gunman is on the loose following a “targeted” shooting that left a teenager fighting for life and another seriously injured in an inner-Melbourne suburb.

Police believe multiple shots were fired at a group of youths on Vere St near Palmer St in Collingwood about 1am on Friday.

A 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries while a 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police believe a large group were fighting on Hoddle St before the shooting.

“Detectives believe the incident was a targeted attack and are working to establish the exact circumstances,” the spokesperson said.

Police are patrolling the area for public reassurance.

Anyone with information has been urged to come forward.

Police are set to address the media on Friday afternoon.
