King Charles III seen wiping away tears during emotional goodbye to his mother Queen Elizabeth

King Charles III was visibly heartbroken throughout many key moments of his mother’s funeral as he mourned in the public eye.

After 11 days of momentous change and activity since the Queen died, Charles looked distraught and exhausted as the pallbearers carried the coffin into the abbey for the funeral service.

Close-up TV shots showed the grief on his face as he wiped tears away during the final hymn, ‘Love Divine, All Love Excelling’.

It was sung at Kate and William’s wedding in 2011.

His sister Princess Anne looked at him with concern and care before focusing on her mother’s coffin and crown in front of her.

The monarch sat at the head of the family next to Princess Anne, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex behind him in the second row.

He also welled up when the entire congregation sang God Save the King.

Throughout the service, Charles gripped his ceremonial sword in his left hand.

As the whole church stood for the final moments of the service and before the Queen’s coffin departed the abbey, His Majesty blinked tears away.

The bearer party carried the Queen’s coffin back through Westminster Abbey and out of the Great West Door.

It was placed back onto the State Gun Carriage ready for the 3km procession from the Abbey to Wellington Arch.

It will take 30 minutes to reach the arch due to the slow march.

The crowds fell silent as Big Ben tolled during the procession.
