Kambalda’s struggle for frontline players was laid bare in brutal fashion on Saturday when Boulder recruits Dustin Walters and Richie Bourne combined for 28 goals in a 274-point rout, 42.23 (275) to 0.1 (1), on the Eagles’ home ground to complete round two in the Goldfields Football League.

The Tigers were clinical straight out of the blocks — piling on 14 first-quarter goals while building an 88-point lead.

It was followed-up by nine goals in each of the second and third terms, and 10 goals in the run home when Kambalda posted the side’s lone behind.

Walters led the charge with 18 goals, complementing a five-goal haul in the season-opener against Mines Rovers while bursting to an early lead for the Dick Robinson Medal.

Notwithstanding the ease of the win, Walters has joined Boulder this season from Colac, Victoria as a proven goalkicker who is approaching 400 for his career.

His 18 games for Colac last year in the Barwon Football League yielded 36 goals.

In oppressive heat, Boulder coach Kye Bradley said it was important to make good use of the interchange bench.

“I think it was around the 40C mark, so quick changes were the key,” Bradley said.

“That meant changing the boys out every five minutes and giving each player a fair crack everywhere.

“There were a couple of niggles, including some of the senor players who we put on ice fairly early.”

It was the Tigers’ first win under Bradley, following a two-point loss in round one against Mines Rovers.

“All the boys were ready to go, after the week before and such a narrow loss,” Bradley said.

“We’d spoken about what we didn’t (execute) the week before, and a lot of that was missed goals.

“This time, we took our opportunities and were more precise.

“The best aspect was that everyone was primed and switched on.”
