John Paul College honours students’ academic efforts

Teachers, parents and guardians gathered to acknowledge the efforts of John Paul College high school students last week during the school’s annual awards presentation.

Year 12 student Jordan van der Wal was named the ATAR dux winner and top student in chemistry, literature, mathematics specialist and physics.

Jordan also received the Christian leadership award.

Jonah Starcevich took out the Year 10 dux academic excellence award and received the Australian Defence Force’s Long Tan Innovators award.

Jonah was also named the top student in human and social sciences, English, mathematics, religious education and science.

Academic excellence awards went to Year 7 student Catherine Roberts, Year 8 student Sophie Barton and Year 9 students Isabelle Baldomero and Khadeeja Ali Asad.

Annie Roberts received the Year 10 Best All Rounder award while Elena Butchart took out the Year 11 2023 McKenzie & McKenzie Politics and Law Scholarship.

Year 11 students Nisarg Trivedi and Drew Epis won the Academic Excellence and Vocational Education and Training awards, respectively.

The Australian Defence Force’s Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork awards were given to Year 10 student Lachlan Watts and Year 12 student Wilmarie Smit, who also received the JPC leadership award.

Year 12 student Ravichandra Gokidi received the Long Tan Innovators Award.

Year 12 student Dongling Zhang took out the JPC principal’s award, Elizabeth Ayre won the community service award, Kate Wood took home the vocational education award, while Fynn Moulds won the John Paul Award.

Principal Bradley Hall said the assembly was held to recognise the effort and excellence of JPC students during the 2022 academic year.

The awards ceremony was followed by Year 12 graduation events on Friday.
