Fundraising troupe need sponsors

South Western Times

An unlikely troupe will take to the great stretch of Australian roads for one man’s desire to raise money for cancer.

Ian Retallack will travel around Australia in a wagon towed by two horses and accompanied by a puppy to raise money for Cancer Council Australia.

Mr Retallack is not leaving on his two-year nationwide trip until late October but is still looking for sponsorship.

“I still need $3800 for the wagon and any donations of food for myself and the horses as we travel would be greatly appreciated,” he said.

“The costs will be paid, even if they come from me, but every cent saved goes towards cancer.”

Mr Retallack decided about five years ago he wanted to do something to raise money for cancer and his mother’s death last year spurred him on.

He said he decided to make the trek around Australia using a wagon with horses because it was “different”.

“I thought everyone else was doing something different, so I decided to do that too,” he said.

The night before Mr Retallack leaves on his journey on October 26, he will hold a family country music night in Boyanup to boost fundraising and raise awareness about his journey.

“It will be $25 per family and hopefully I can get an auction going.”

During his journey, Mr Retallack thinks he, the horses — Paddy and Matt — and puppy Russ will average about 30km a day.

Businesses or organisations who would like to sponsor the trip can contact Mr Retallack by email at ianretallack@yahoo .com.au.

Mr Retallack is also setting up www.rattlesride.com.au so people can follow his journey and donate to the Cancer Council Australia.
