Part of the nation’s biggest display of Victoria Cross recipients is on show in Bunbury and Harvey this month

A fraction of the nation’s biggest display of Victoria Cross recipients is on show in Bunbury and Harvey this month.
Tony Banner’s colossal Anzac Victoria Cross Story exhibition showcases the lives and stories of each of the 125 Australian recipients of a Victoria Cross in handmade displays created by Mr Banner.
A display showcasing all Western Australian recipients of the prestigious medal is on show at the Bunbury Museum — only 15 per cent of the overall exhibition, according to Mr Banner.
“The exhibition is pretty huge when it’s all in one place, so I’ve customised it to cover just Western Australia,” he said.

Mr Banner is also preparing a smaller version of the display to grace the halls of the Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre during this year’s Harvey Show, which opens on Anzac Day.
“Normally with the information panels up the smaller display goes over a distance of 39 metres, but by double siding and shrinking everything I’ve got it down to 18m,” Mr Banner said.
Alongside both showcases, Mr Banner is leading a special presentation on April 27 at the Bunbury Museum acknowledging and paying tribute to the WA recipients of the medal.
After spending months in storage while looking for a location to set up the display long term, Mr Banner said he was thrilled to have parts on his exhibition on show for the community.
“I love being here, the people are wonderful,” he said.
“My whole goal in life is to tell these stories and having the opportunity to tell these stories in the museum and at the Harvey showground — it’s what I’m geared up to do.”
