WA Premier Roger Cook has continued his pledge Labor will “do what’s right” for Murray-Wellington if re-elected in the upcoming State poll.

Mr Cook unveiled his plans for the Murray-Wellington, Mandurah and Dawesville electorates last week, stating a re-elected Labor Government was committed to housing, cost of living relief, health care and creating jobs across the region.

Mr Cook said the investments would build on Labor’s existing projects across the electorates and help set up the Peel Region for the future.

The Murray-Wellington region would receive several benefits under a re-elected Labor Government according to Mr Cook, including new upgrades to support the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area, plans to upgrade and improve community sporting infrastructure across the region and enhancing nature and adventure tourism across Murray-Wellington, Mandurah and Dawesville.

Mr Cook said this was part of WA Labor’s commitment to “do what’s right” for WA.

“Our Vision for Murray-Wellington, Mandurah and Dawesville will shape these communities, keep the region strong and prepare for the future,” he said.

“From additional housing, to record investment in cost-of-living relief and quality health care, our Government has a proven track record of delivering for this region.”

Mr Cook said the plans would continue investment in healthcare services which has seen funding for health and mental health services rise by $14.3 billion since 2021, adding more than 800 beds to hospitals across WA.

He said the $152 million redevelopment of Peel Health Campus was under way, delivering a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the future and if re-elected Labor would invest an additional $11m to increase paid paramedics in Dawesville to provide faster ambulance response times.

Mr Cook said if re-elected a Labor Government would halve TransWA fees including those on the Australind line, and there would be an investment of $18m to construct two additional rail sets.

He said Labor aims to make the train line a viable service for people living along its journey, so they could enjoy the opportunities which come with having an efficient rail system.

“The Australind will be able to run more often and keep these services viable into the future,” he said.

“Which will help support the growing populations in Pinjarra, Waroona, Harvey and right across the South West.”

In addition to this, Mr Cook said Labor would increase the value of the regional pensioner travel card by another $100 to directly benefit regional residents.

Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said her re-election would build on the Cook Government’s strong track record of supporting the people of the region, with the investment into adventure tourism, rail services and strategic projects benefiting local families and businesses.

Dawesville MLA Lisa Munday said the community would continue to benefit from Labor’s programs which are easing housing pressure and providing cost-of-living relief.

WA Labor’s candidate for Mandurah, Rhys Williams said the Cook Government was investing in the future of the city, from redevelopment of the Peel Health Campus to school upgrades.

“WA Labor’s vision for Mandurah will ensure our community continues to be a great place to live, work and visit for generations to come,” he said.
