KNA 2024: Teams come together on court to celebrate heritage and culture in annual NAIDOC Round

Katanning Netball Association celebrated NAIDOC Round on Saturday, which doubled as round 11 of the season.

Lita Collard gave a lovely welcome to country ceremony and all games were played with the 2024 Noongar NAIDCO designed netball.

Leanne Eades did the coin toss with the captains before the A1 fixture between Allstars 1 and Kojonup 1.

A best player from each game was chosen by the umpires and presented their very own Naidoc Ball by Leanne Eades.

Net Set, GO Juniors and Juniors had the courts warming up from the morning rounds.

With holidays still affecting numbers for teams, Net Set kids are getting a good run with being able to fill-in for the GO teams.

Junior teams ripped up the courts in their division, as the season nears the end and it’s a fight for that top spot.

QFH Vixens had a battle with Kojonup Sapphires.

Both sitting in the middle of the ladder, it was Kojonup who took the win 38-29.

Nutrien Firebirds weren’t giving up their ladder position, sitting second it was clear from the start they did not give up easily against McIntosh Mystics and Firebirds had a nice win 43-25.

Seniors are coming into the second half hard and fast.

A1 had a battle of some almighty netball with Allstars 1 and Kojonup 1 facing off, some epic netball was played.

Both teams are at the top of the A1 ladder and after an hour of goal for goal from both sides, it all came down to the last few seconds.

It was almost a draw, but Allstars 1 snuck through by one goal to take the win 44-43.

Olympians 1 put their foot down against Te Taitonga 1.

It was a competitive game between the two, a lot of strongly contested play and Olympians 1 took the win 42-34.

Kojonup 2 had a battle against Cardinal Force who are close to each other on the ladder and it really was anyone’s game.

Kojonup however had the extra push and just came through with the win, 46-44.

A2 was a battle of positions and Broomehill couldn’t give up top spot.

However it is Allstars 2 who are giving them a run for their money.

A strong battle between the two had the ball going from one end to the other with lots of deflections and turnovers. It was a low-scoring affair but Broomhill kept their strong run going, winning 36-30.

Dumbleyung finally caved to Te Taitonga 2.

It was Te Taitonga 2 who charged hard in the first three quarters, Dumbleyung slowly got back into the game but the final whistle saved the win for Te Taitonga 2.

Cardinals Fever managed a win over Olympians 2, who just couldn’t find the tempo needed as Cardinals won 41-27.

In A3 Kojonup3 were strong through all for quarters to score a big 53-22 win over Allstars 3.

Cardinals Phoenix battled it out against Kojonup 4 and it was Kojonup who blitzed the courts to win 50-31.

There is a bye this weekend as the KNA send three junior teams to Albany for the Great Southern Association Netball Championships.
