La Fiamma Soccer Club will be hosting a pre-season carnival this weekend — the first of its kind since the early 90s — which will showcase six men’s teams and six women’s teams.

In total, 35 games will be played across the weekend in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The pre-season carnival is open to metro teams, with some of the best metro talent invited to Geraldton for the weekend to compete before the season opens later in April.

Along with the Geraldton and metro teams competing across the two-day carnival will be the Jambinu women’s team, which represented WA in a First Nations football tournament in Queensland late last year.

La Fiamma first grade captain Lachlan Gray said the opportunity to host teams from all over Perth would help grow interest in the game in the Mid West.

“It will be super important to host this carnival,” he said.

“It will pay us back in spades and will be a great spectacle for fans to watch.

“We hope to continue to grow it for years to come and make it an annual affair.”

The pre-season carnival will be held from Saturday, March 1, to Sunday, March 2, at La Fiamma Soccer Club.
