City of Greater Geraldton, Museum of Geraldton offer an array of activities for children during summer break

Stand-up paddleboarding, drop-in science lessons, a taco night, and a virtual reality holiday to the stunning Kimberley — these are just some of the summer holiday options to keep children in Geraldton and surrounds entertained The city of Greater Geraldton has released its school holiday program, with free events taking place nearly every day, and all activities can be booked online up until Tuesday, February 4. “Our school holiday program is always very popular, so I encourage you to jump online and book your free tickets,” mayor Jerry Clune said. Activities include tennis and surfing lessons, puzzle making workshops, water play activities, skating clinics, scrapbooking and much more. In Mullewa, there’s a taco night, a smoothie making workshop, a pool tournament, and paint ‘n’ sip at the local youth centre. There’s free daily entry at Mullewa’s Doc Docherty Pool this summer thanks to sponsorship from Ventia, which recently installed an NBN connection at the venue. “Everyone loves the Doc Docherty Pool, especially in summer when it is very warm each day, so this news will be welcomed by all,” Mr Clune said. Ventia stakeholder engagement national lead Leanne Hearne said the organisation was proud to contribute to the Mullewa community. The sponsorship does not extend to weekly or monthly passes or vacation swimming lessons. Lovers of the outdoors can explore the incredible world of birds, as well as the Kimberley wilderness, at the Museum of Geraldton. In the avian activity corner, children can enjoy activities and puzzles or discover some of the inspiring shorebird species found near Geraldton, while learning about the groups which care for them. They can also go on a hunt for hidden feathers through the museum, investigate feathers under a microscope, compare bird eggs, and take a closer look at the tiny critters shorebirds eat. Museum visitors can also pop on a virtual reality headset and let 35-minute immersive film The Great Kimberley Wilderness transport them to one of Australia’s most stunning regions. In the film narrated by Luke Hemsworth, the audience is flown over thundering waterfalls and through ancient gorges — no hiking boots required.
