A driver has been killed after colliding with a train at a level crossing in central Queensland.

The 44-year-old man was driving at about 7am on Friday when the crash occurred in the town of Emerald, about three hours west of Rockhampton.

He died at the scene. The three train drivers onboard were not physically injured.

Queensland Police advised it was not a passenger train and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
