Ex-Adelaide Crows player charged over alleged assault
A former AFL player has faced court, charged with the alleged assault of a former partner, court documents reveal.
On Friday, former Adelaide Crows player Jared Petrenko faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court, charged with aggravated assault towards a former partner.
Mr Petrenko, 32, is alleged to have committed the assault on April 19 this year in Mile End, where he also lives, according to court documents.
“(You are alleged to have) committed the offence knowing that the victim of the offence was a person with whom you were in, or were formerly in a relationship with,” the documents state.
The matter was heard in the family violence section of the courts, meaning the media was unable to enter.
But outside court, Mr Petrenko’s lawyer, Nick Murphy, who is a former SANFL football captain, told the media his client would make no comments.
Court documents show Mr Petrenko first faced the Magistrates court in May this year.
He is yet to enter a plea, and is expected back in court next month.
Mr Petrenko retired from football in 2020, but played 76 games for the Crows between 2009 and 2014.
He also played 116 games for the SANFL Woodville-West Torrens team.
Mr Petrenko featured on renovation show House Rules in 2018 with a former partner, coming in fifth place.
