Truck driver dies after vehicle rolls and bursts into flames on North West Coast Highway in Gascoyne region

A 38-year-old truck driver has died after his vehicle rolled and burst into flames on a major highway in the Gascoyne region. Police say a red and white Kenworth truck was travelling northbound on North West Coast Highway — about 45km north of Minilya Roadhouse — when it left the carriageway, rolled over and caught fire about 11.40am on Tuesday. The 38-year-old male driver — the sole occupant of the truck — died at the scene. The truck was towing four trailers of gravel and sand. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene and extinguished the blaze. North West Coastal Highway between Minilya-Exmouth Road and Burkett Road was closed as a result, with DFES and WA Police in attendance. Both roads have since reopened.
