Midland incident: Man assists police with inquiries after dramatic police chase through eastern suburbs

A man is being questioned following a dramatic police chase involving almost a dozen cop cars in Perth’s north east. Police say they activated their emergency lights and sirens after sighting a stolen red Volkswagen Beetle on West Swan Road, West Swan, about 1.40pm on Wednesday. The Beetle was allegedly stolen from Beechboro earlier in the day. The driver allegedly sped away, leading police on a pursuit, before coming to a stop on Morrison Road, Midland, about 2pm. Dramatic vision obtained by The West Australian shows the Beetle crashing head on into another vehicle before almost a dozen police cars surround the car. At least six officers pin a man — believed to be the driver — to the ground. “Holy s..., this red car just crashed into the car in front of me,” a witness said. Police officers were seen searching the Beetle after the man was apprehended. Inquiries are ongoing.
