Illegal tobacco, vaping products and $2.6 million in cash seized, after AFP raids across multiple locations

A man has faced court after police seized $2.6 million in cash and illegal tobacco and vaping products. According to the Australian Federal Police, Hafez Kanjou coordinated the importation and distribution of illicit tobacco products in Perth before sending the profits back to a group in the Eastern States. He allegedly dealt in the proceeds of crime from the sale of illicit products. The AFP conducted searches across multiple locations, including Mr Kanjou’s Baldivis residence and a courier company in Perth’s southern suburbs. At the courier company, police allegedly found close to $1 million in cash concealed in packed microwave ovens waiting to be shipped to Melbourne. Mr Kanjou has been charged with dealing with money or property believed to be the proceeds of crime and illegally possessing tobacco. The 26-year-old appeared in Perth Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he was granted bail with conditions and a $50,000 personal undertaking. He did not enter pleas to the charges. The matter is next listed in Perth Magistrates Court on May 9.
