Muhammad Mirza pleads guilty to dumping Helen Marsuk’s body in South Fremantle boat harbour, denies murder

A man accused of murdering a young mum and then dumping her body in South Fremantle harbour has pleaded guilty to destroying evidence and disposing of her remains. Muhammad Abdur Rehman Mirza appeared in the WA Supreme Court on Thursday where he changed his plea for the two serious charges. He admitted to wilfully destroying Helen Marsuk’s personal belongings such as her wig and clothing to prevent them from being used as evidence sometime between November 30, 2022 and December 8, 2022. He also admitted to interfering with her corpse by dumping her body in the harbour on December 4, 2022, to hamper the investigation surrounding her death. However, during the brief hearing, the court was told he still intends to fight the murder charge at trial. Mr Mirza is accused of killing Ms Marsuk at his Gosnells home on December 1, 2022. Her body was found floating in the harbour days later. Following the grim discovery, her family requested that photos of the young mum not be published. They also described her as a “beautiful young soul” with a “contagious laugh”. Mr Mirza is expected to stand trial in September.
