Mongols bikie Clovis Chikonga accused of directing two nominees to carry out baseball bat attack on Balga man

A Perth court has been told the alleged victim of a bikie bashing is friends with a Rebels gang member pictured with mourners at the scene of the murder of a gangland enforcer last week. The claim was made in a Supreme Court bail application for senior Mongol Clovis Chikonga who is facing many offences regarding the brutal baseball bat beating of the man as part of a $200,000 extortion bid. The 35-year-old is accused of not only being involved in the savage assaults but also ordering two nominees to carry out the attacks in July. Mr Chikonga’s lawyer Nick Scerri told the court the credibility of the alleged victim’s evidence against his client would be tested at trial, saying it would come down to whether a jury believed his version or not. And he said the State’s case relied solely on the evidence of the alleged victim who, he claimed, was friends with Rebels member Joseph Raimondi — a man who had featured “significantly in the media” in recent days. Raimondi was photographed consoling mourners after the fatal shooting of underworld enforcer Joe Versace at a Gnangara workshop on September 29 and was later charged by police for displaying bikie insignia. Raimondi is believed to have been close friends with former Rebels boss Nick Martin who was assassinated by a sniper at Kwinana Motorplex in December 2020. Referring to Raimondi, Mr Scerri said the alleged bashing victim was someone who “associated in that world” and was “friends” with “people from that world” and was also someone who had no issue with contacting police if he felt his life was threatened. Mr Chikonga has been charged with 15 offences in relation to the incidents that are said to have taken place at the alleged victim’s Balga home on July 16 and at a property in Landsdale five days later. During the first alleged incident, Mr Chikonga allegedly followed the man around his home with the bat while demanding he pay $200,000 before threatening to “kill his children and parents” if he didn’t cough up the cash. The man was then allegedly beaten unconscious. A co-accused then allegedly destroyed the CCTV at the Balga house. Five days later, the complainant, who is believed to be in his 50s, attended a Landsdale property where he was allegedly held against his will and Mr Chikonga and one of the co-accused, Mongols nominee Bradley Gordon Wilson, allegedly threatened to kill his family again. They then demanded titles to his two properties as well as any jewellery or valuables. Mr Chikonga and Mr Wilson then told the man the other co-accused, and Mongols nominee, George Agbadzi, was already at his home. They then drove him to his house where they allegedly demanded valuables. A previous court hearing was told the man told his alleged attackers he kept jewellery at his parents’ house and was ordered to collect it but instead he asked his mother to get help. Gang crime officers arrested the men a few days later. After a raid on Mr Chikonga’s house, officers seized $50,000 cash, as well as ammunition, cocaine, and steroids. A State prosecutor told the court there were real concerns that Mr Chikonga, if released on bail, could interfere with witnesses and the alleged victim. The matter was adjourned for two weeks after the judge asked for more information.
