UPDATE: The bushfire in the Shire of Mundaring has been downgraded to an advice level after conditions eased for fireys on the scene.

People in Mundaring had been warned there was a possible threat to lives and homes with the bushfire fast approaching residential areas this morning.

The Department of Fire and Emergency issued a watch and act for people in parts of Mount Helena and areas surrounding Bunning Road, Kingston Road, Joseph Road, Alice Road and Trimble Road just before 9am this morning.

But less than an hour later DFES advised that there was no longer a threat to homes or lives, but warned there is still a lot of smoke in the area.

It warned residents in the area to stay alert and keep up to date in case the situation changed.

The fire started near the intersection of Bunning Road in Mount Helena.
