BSBL men’s: Ladder-leaders Bulls Gold beat Tornadoes Black by 56 points, finals-chasing sides record wins
Bulls Gold sent a message to the rest of the Bunbury Senior Basketball League men’s A-grade competition on Friday night, smashing Tornadoes Black by 56 points at South West Sports Centre.
Black came into the contest sitting third on the ladder with a recent six-game winning streak to their credit but proved no match for the ladder-leaders, who produced another dominant performance to run out 118-62 winners.
Gold have ended each of the 11 games where they have taken to the court this season in victorious fashion, with their only defeat coming from a forfeit in round 10.
Their offensive engine was again powered by Thom Musumeci (42 points) and Tanner Vogel (35), who combined to contribute more than half their scoreboard output.
The winners took a 22-point lead into half-time which they grew further with a 65-31 run over the second half.
The closest of the round’s other games saw Bulls Grey maintain their grip on fifth place with a hard-fought 105-89 win over Conquerors.
Thirty-six points from both Dylan Jorre de st Jorre and Dylan Moir helped Grey to a 105-89 victory, which sees them remain in the last finals place.
The contest was tight for much of the night, but Grey were able to stifle Conquerors’ late attempts at a comeback with timely baskets in the final term.
Tornadoes Red moved past their compatriots Black into third with a 93-65 win over Aces White.
A standout defensive performance which saw Red surrender only 31 points in the second half powered them to a fourth victory in a row, winning 93-65.
Braithan McCauley paced the winners in scoring with 20 points, while Trent Faulkner led the way for White with 18.
Sixth-placed Aces Sky kept in touch with the finals race by beating Eaton Eagles by 66 points.
Sky may not have got the boost to the percentage they were hoping for but were still far too good for the Eagles in a 150-84 win where the competition’s leading scorer Nathan Walsh produced a season-best 70-point effort.
The last spot in the finals will be up for grabs in the last round of the season, with a bye leaving Grey vulnerable but Sky needing to both win their game and get a healthy percentage boost to have any hope of vaulting them.
