The low-level crossing across the Fitzroy River has reopened to 4WD vehicles, three weeks after it was closed just hours into its operation due to rising water levels.

The causeway, which originally took just over two weeks to complete, was shut after mere hours of operation on April 4 due to forecast rain in the week following.

Now, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services have confirmed the low-level crossing was re-opened to 4WD vehicles only on Friday, with plans to see light vehicles cross from Monday.

“If river levels stay down, further works are continuing to allow for light vehicles to cross from next Monday. Advice on access for trucks will be provided by Main Roads WA next week,” a statement by DFES said.

The passenger ferry across the river is still running daily, while the 4WD ferry service is currently on hold due to weather conditions.
