Twenty-two Glendas gathered in Albany on Saturday night to celebrate the 18th Glenda Gaggle — an annual gathering for people named Glenda.

Glendas first congregated for a gaggle in 2007 after Glenda Gaspari met another Glenda while working as a waitress and decided to gather 12 other Glendas at the former Tanglehead Brewery on Stirling Terrace.

“I was working in a local cafe and a Glenda came over from Sydney for holidays, and she came into the cafe and saw my badge and remarked that she hadn’t seen or met any other Glendas,” Ms Gaspari said.

“I said that in Albany we’ve got about 12 other Glendas that I could get together.

“She was really surprised by that, and so that night when I finished work, I sort of got on the phone and invited the local Glendas that I knew would be able to come.”

After that initial gaggle in 2007, the gathering became an annual tradition.

Ms Gaspari said Glendas have come from all over Australia for the Albany gathering, with some travelling from New Zealand to attend.

“People come from all over — all over Albany and down from Perth and Geraldton as well,” she said.

“Other years we’ve had Glendas come from Melbourne, NSW, Brisbane, New Zealand and Tassie.”

The annual Glenda Gaggle has sparked mini Glenda Gaggles around the country in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane.
