Shire of Denmark residents are being urged to take advantage of the Shire’s “Book a Ranger” program to prepare their properties for the fast-approaching bushfire season.

The Shire is running the program across October and November to help residents identify bushfire management work needed ahead of the summer months.

Locals can book a free appointment for a ranger to come out to their property and walk them through the Firebreak and Fuel Management Notice ahead of compliance inspections in December.

Senior ranger Charmaine Shelley said the team was more than happy to help the community.

“We’re encouraging community members to call ranger services to make an appointment for us to come out to their property,” she said.

“We’ll walk around the property with them and discuss ideas about how to reduce the risk of fire.

“If we can help someone make their property safer by coming out and going through the notice step-by-step, we think it’s a worthwhile effort.”

The Firebreak and Fuel Management Notice 2021/22 is delivered to residents and can also be accessed on the Shire website or administration building.

Ms Shelley encouraged community members to volunteer with the local fire brigade or join a Bushfire Ready group.

“They could also prepare their bushfire plan using the online DFES resources, sign up to our SMS alert system to receive emergency notices from the Shire and monitor the Emergency WA website,” she said.

“There are so many ways people can prepare but most importantly, if you see smoke, call triple-0.”
