OFA 2025: Gnowangerup with big round one win on the road, Jerramungup thump Newdegate to start strongly
Gnowangerup powered to a dominant first-up victory in the 2025 Ongerup Football Association, thumping Boxwood Hill by 82 points on Saturday.
The Bulldogs went down to Lake Grace-Pingrup in last year’s grand final but hit the ground running in round one of this year’s league competition.
A seven-goal first quarter blitz set up the comprehensive win for the Bulldogs at Boxwood Hill, as they went on to kick 16 goals.
Under player-coach Timm House the Bulldogs had 10 goals on the board by half-time to lead by more than 50 points over the home side.
The visitors stretched that advantage in the second half to run out big victors in the end, 16.14 (110) to 4.4 (28).
Rohan Hodgson, Marley Phillips, Tyler Caldwell and Connor Smallwood were all terrific for the Bulldogs.
Skipper Hayden Richter best served Boxwood along with Samuel Bertola and Ryan Baker while Brock Green, playing on a season permit from Katanning Wanderers, was also a strong contributor.
In the other opening round clash, Jerramungup were hugely impressive in their 122-point belting of Newdegate.
On the back of a nine-goal haul from veteran Graham Ross, the Eagles flew to a massive win at home.
The Eagles kicked 10 goals to one in the first half to lead by 60 points and added more pain in the second half on their way to a 23.18 (154) to 5.2 (32) result.
Ross finished with nine goals while fellow key forward Caleb Keley chipped in with four goals.
Ben Hislop (three goals) and Wade Brown (two) also hit the scoreboard.
Nelson Kent has returned to play for the Lions and kicked one of their five goals, but they were left to rue a sluggish start.
