Great Southern footballer Declan Mountford named co-captain of Claremont Football Club for 2021 WAFL season

Manypeaks-raised footballer Declan Mountford will lead Claremont Football Club in the 2021 WAFL season, announced as a co-captain of the Tigers last night.

One of the best midfielders in the WAFL competition, Mountford will share the captaincy with Jared Hardisty.

The news was announced to the Tigers players last night, the pair taking over from veteran ball winner Kane Mitchell.

Mountford, who hails from North Albany, has been a key figure at the Tigers since he returned from a three years on North Melbourne’s list.

He was a vice-captain of the club in 2020.

The 24-year-old played 12 AFL games before he was delisted at the end of 2018 and returned to the Tigers.

Hardisty, 25, also has top level experience after he was drafted by Hawthorn in 2014 but never played a senior game.

The co-captains both finished inside the top five in the Tigers fairest and best last season.

The Tigers went down to South Fremantle by three points in last year’s WAFL grand final.

Coach Darren Harris was sacked after the grand final defeat, with the Tigers appointing Ashley Prescott for three seasons in October last year.

Mountford has played 31 league games for the Tigers and finished runner-up in Tigers fairest and best in 2019 after his AFL stint.

Sandover Medal winner Jye Bolton was named vice-captain.
