Firefighters extinguish accidental fire sparked in kitchen at Albany’s Dome Cafe in early morning of Friday

Smoke filled Albany Highway on Friday morning after a fire broke out at the Albany’s Dome Cafe just after 6.30am. The fire was first reported at 6.36am in a triple-0 call. Staff were evacuated from the building and there were no reported injuries. The fire began at a oven-grill appliance in the cafe’s kitchen and did not spread through the building. A spokesperson from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said crews from Albany Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire by 6.59am. The cause of the fire is accidental, and the scene was not attended to by St John WA. The fire is the second in Albany in three weeks after Doralane Pastries in Spencer Park went up in flames on October 12 causing an estimated $200,000 in damage.
