Albany Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Club celebrates 25 years with annual hill climb and motorbike display

Hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts helped celebrate a milestone anniversary of the Albany Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Club over Saturday and Sunday. The packed weekend organised by the club is a huge drawcard for bike lovers who travel from across the State to attend, with this year’s event marking the club’s 25th year. On Saturday, about 350 motorbikes lined Stirling Terrace for the bike display, which featured a smorgasbord of two-wheelers, some more than 100 years old. On Sunday, Middleton Beach was filled with the roar of vintage engines as about 93 riders competed in the hill climb, aiming for the most consistent time over three runs up Marine Drive, with Wayne Jackson winning the time trial on his 1979 Honda CX500. The annual event is put together by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, including event co-ordinator Charles Walmsley who was pleased to see a strong turnout. “It brings vintage motorcycle enthusiasts all together and also it’s only really one or two of its kind in the country or one of maybe three,” he said. “So it’s quite a unique event, plus with the backdrop of the sound and where it is, we’re very lucky.”
